MONTHLY: China's met coke market sees firming support in May

China's metallurgical coke market in May is expected to receive support from multiple factors, pointing to the potential for short-term upward momentum, though uncertainties surrounding recent market gains in the downstream steel market may limit met coke strength in the latter half of this month, Mysteel Global predicts.

The latest Yuan 50-55/tonne ($7.3-8.1/t) met coke price hikes proposed by coke producers late last month – the third bout since early April – is recently gaining higher chances of a successful materialization, while their negotiation with steelmakers has dragged on for nearly two weeks. Market chatter is spreading
