GACC: China's coking coal imports soar 50.9% YoY in May

China imported 11.15 million tonnes of coking coal from all sources in May, soaring 50.9% from the same month last year despite a slight fall of 1.4% from April, according to the latest data from the country's General Administration of Customs (GACC).

The May figure continued to set a record high for the corresponding month in history, demonstrating the country's elevated appetite for imported cargoes as persistent geopolitical tensions posed pressures on global coal supply. In parallel, the import value registered $1.24 billion in May, swelling by a significant 85.5% on year.
