On Monday, the CBOT soybean main contract edged higher, with the market adjusting positions ahead of the USDA monthly supply/demand report. The USDA's post-market crop progress report showed that as of the week ending August 10, the U.S. soybean good-to-excellent rating fell to 62%, down 1 percentage point from the previous week and well below 68% a year earlier, marking the lowest level for this period in the past three years. On the weather front, most of the Midwest is expected to receive widespread rainfall, which is favorable for soybean pod-setting and grain-filling; however, drought coverage remains relatively extensive, leaving some underlying concerns. On the export side, U.S. soybean export inspections for the week ending August 6 totaled 399,000 metric tons, up 15% from the previous week, with Chinese buyers continuing to make steady purchases of new-crop U.S. soybeans.
