DAILY: China's portside thermal coal gains narrow on slack demand

Price gains at China's northern transfer ports narrowed to their smallest in two weeks on September 9 as profit-taking holders moved to cash in. However, buyers remained on the sidelines and few deals were concluded, market sources said.

On Wednesday, Mysteel assessed the benchmark 5,500 kcal/kg NAR thermal coal at northern ports at Yuan 984/tonne ($146.7/t) FOB with VAT, up Yuan 6/t, the smallest daily gain since August 28. The 5,000 kcal/kg and 4,500 kcal/kg NAR grades each gained Yuan 6/t as well, to Yuan 894/t and
