WEEKLY: China's thermal coal stays rangebound amid lingering heat and supply recovery

China's thermal coal market saw an unusual turn during the week of September 21-24, with a late-season heatwave across South China boosting power demand, but Beijing's supply-guarantee signal kept a lid on price gains.

As of September 24, the last workday before China's Mid-Autumn holiday (September 25-27), Mysteel assessed the benchmark 5,500 kcal/kg NAR thermal coal at Yuan 983/tonne ($146.5/t) FOB northern ports with VAT, flat from a week earlier. The 5,000 kcal/kg and 4,500 kcal/kg NAR grades also stood unchanged at Yuan
