CBOT soybean futures, front-month November contract, settled at 1282.75, down 5.50 cents per bushel. The decline was mainly due to dry weather in the Midwest accelerating harvest progress and persistently weak Chinese purchasing demand. The USDA weekly crop report showed that as of October 11, the U.S. soybean harvest rate was 46%, faster than the market expectation of 44%, but behind the five-year average of 50%. AgResource said that China has basically been absent from U.S. soybean purchases since Golden Week, and punitive tariffs continue to effectively suppress private import willingness. Meanwhile, CONAB data showed Brazil's planting progress at 15.6%, higher than 11.1% in the same period last year and the five-year average of 15.2%. The globally loose supply pattern continues to cap upside room for U.S. soybeans. In the short term, focus on harvest progress and China's purchasing pace.
