WEEKLY: China’s coking coal demand firm, price dips a bit

Mysteel’s pricing index for China’s spot coking coal softened marginally by Yuan 5.1/tonne ($0.73/t) on week to Yuan 1,256.3/t including 16% VAT as of November 30, having receded from its year’s high of Yuan 1,261.4/t over November 21-23, just to reflect a lower merchant coke price instead of any possible demand slump.

As of November 30, Mysteel’s coke price index slumped Yuan 209.9/t on week to Yuan 2,305/t including 16% VAT, or hitting a three-month low, while on the same day, coking coal price at the core mining hubs stay resilient, with only some coal products in Changzhi and Xiangning in North China’s Shanxi province
