Shanxi Shuozhou coal mine accident kills five


An accident which claimed the lives of five miners at the underground Jiaomeikuang coal mine operated by state-owned Datong Coal Mine Group in Shuozhou city is North China’s Shanxi province, is prompting concerns about coal supplies should the provincial government mount yet another safety campaign.
The accident occurred at around 0:00 on December 29, according to a release by the company on Monday, and was caused by the underground debris flow or ‘mudrush’ which initially trapped six miners though one was later rescued.
