China’s Jan-Apr steel exports dip 12% on year


China’s steel exports dipped by 11.7% on year to 20.6 million tonnes over January-April, but the pace of the drop was considerably slower than the 16% plunge seen in this year’s first quarter, according to the latest statistics from General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) published on May 7.
In April alone, steel exports totalled 6.32 million tonnes, almost flat from the 6.33 million tonnes shipped abroad in the same month last year, according to the GACC data. “This is within our expectations,” a Shanghai-based steel analyst stated. “In April, the volumes (of steel products) shipped abroad were largely normal,
