Typhoon hits Kyushu, disrupting local steel operations

The powerful typhoon Haishen hit Kyushu, southern island of Japan on late September 6, forcing the local steel mills to halt steel production temporarily out of safety concerns amid torrential rains and strong winds, steel mill sources confirmed on Monday.

Haishen has brought along the wind at the highest speed of 59.4 meters/second, and has caused power outage at about 430,000 households on the island as of September 7 morning, according to Kyushu Electric Power Transmission and Distribution Co.The local authority issued evacuation orders by 2200 (Japan time) on Sunday to some 8 millionlocal residents
