Capacity utilization among the 230 Chinese independent coking plants under Mysteel’s weekly survey dropped by 1.5 percentage points on week to a three-month low of 75.4% as of November 19, according to the survey report published on Friday. The reduction in facilities usage during the survey period reflects stoppages for environmental protection inspections in Shanxi plus the ongoing campaign in several provinces to eliminate outdated capacity, the report notes.
As of November 19, total production of coke at the 230 plants had slid by 13,300 tonnes/day on week to 674,500 tonnes, also a three-month low, the data indicates.
