China’s May manganese ore imports surge 27% on month

China’s imports of manganese ore reversed up in May after their short-lived retreat in the prior month, surging by 27% on month to 2.85 million tonnes, according to the latest detailed data released by China’s General Administration of Customs.

Last month’s result was 607,589 tonnes higher than that for April, mainly because “overseas mines shipped more cargoes to China as demand in other countries slipped with the resurgence of COVID-19 elsewhere,” a market source in Shanghai said. Over January-May, China imported 13.3 million tonnes of manganese ore in total, higher by 2.7 million
