CONF: CAMU wants steel scrap off Beijing’s watch list

The China Association of Metallurgical Utilization (CAMU) is lobbying the central government in Beijing for steel scrap to be removed from the list of foreign solid waste materials under import restrictions so as to facilitate higher scrap utilization in steelmaking, Li Shubin, CAMU executive vice president, disclosed at a conference in Bangkok, Thailand, on August 27.
“The chances are probably low, but we think that the 13th and 14th five-year plan periods (2016-2025) are about the best timing to promote more scrap usage in Chinese steelmaking, either for blast-furnace (BF) or electric-arc-furnace (EAF) producers…as steel scrap is the most efficient means to reduce emissions and foster eco-development in China’s steel
