As the Spring Festival approaches, most of China's copper plate/strip enterprises plan to have a holiday in advance recently which will impact the output or trade volume somehow. China's copper plate/strip production is expected to decrease by 14,455 tonnes and trade volume by 4,720 tonnes during the Spring Festival, including 6,770 tonnes decline in Shanghai and Zhejiang and 4,935 tonnes decline in Jiangxi, according to Mysteel's survey of 22 copper plate/strip enterprises with 1.18 million tonnes of annual capacity or trade volume.

Data Source: Mysteel |
According to Mysteel's survey, the start time and end time of the holiday are mostly around 15 and 28 January respectively. Due to the concentrated outbreak of the epidemic and the reduced reserves of downstream enterprises, processing enterprises received fewer new orders, so they chose to extend holidays.
Due to the optimization of China's epidemic control policy this year, workers in processing enterprises are more inclined to return to their hometowns in advance for the Spring Festival holiday, so the duration is extended to about 15 days from about 10 days in the past two years. In addition, the logistics costs during the Spring Festival will rise, which is not conducive to production and trade. It is expected that China's copper plate/strip capacity utilization rate will be less than 60% in January, and will gradually recover until February.
