Mysteel Monthly: Aug China copper consumption in air conditioner was 97.6kt

Mysteel investigated August China copper consumption of main air conditioner brands, The sample accounts for 80% of total capacity and 78-85% of domestic output. Copper consumption is estimated through intensity of different specifications of air conditioners and calculated through a model whose validity reaches 85%.

According to Mysteel survey, main brands air conditioners production was 10.92 million units, -9.63% MoM and -7.4% YoY. The industry was under off-peak season, however, with digestion of inventory in Jul-Aug, Mysteel expects air conditioners output to increase in September with the coming of "Golden September" and "Silver October".

Mysteel model shows that August China copper consumption of main air-con brands was 97.6kt, of which, copper consumption of tube was 65.1kt and brass consumption was 32.5kt. Copper consumption of tube in household air-con was 43.6kt, -8.82% MoM and brass consumption in household air-con was 27.1kt, -8.37% MoM. Copper consumption of tube in commercial air-con was 21.5kt, -12.2% MoM and brass consumption in commercial air-con was 7.9kt, -11.8% MoM.

According to Mysteel estimation, China main brands air conditioners production schedule was 11.33 million units in Sept, +5.98% MoM. September air-con production expects to increase due to high temperature. Sales in August rose in yearly basis, which incented companies' production enthusiasm.
