Hydro to buy Rio Tinto's AL assets in North Europe

Rio Tinto has received a binding offer at $345 million from Norsk Hydro ASA (Hydro) for its aluminum businesses including the full ownership of its ISAL smelter in Iceland, a 53.3% share in its Aluchemie anode plant in the Netherlands and a 50% share in the Aluminum fluoride plant (Alufluor) in Sweden, according to a Rio Tinto release on February 26.
