Taiwan CSC Q1 steel sales up 4.5%, challenges ahead

China Steel Corporation (CSC), Taiwan’s top steel producer headquartered in Kaohsiung, South Taiwan, disclosed that its total carbon steel sales grew by 117,622 tonnes or 4.5% on year to 2.73 million tonnes over the first quarter of 2020, mainly thanks to better sales after the Chinese New Year holiday, according to the company’s latest monthly report released on April 24.

Among the total sales in the first quarter, 69% were sold in Taiwan, higher than the 68% a year ago, according to CSC’s data. For March alone, its carbon steel sales grew for the second month to its 16-month high of 962,092 tonnes, up 1% on month or 5.5% higher on year, according to
