NBS: China's total coal output up 5%, coke down 2% in '21

By 2021, China produced 4.07 billion tonnes of raw coal for all utilization in total, or up 4.7% on year, among which that for December increased 7.2% on year to 384.67 million tonnes, while throughout the whole year, the country's coke output declined 2.2% on year to 464.46 million tonnes with that for December down 10.7% on year to 36 million tonnes, according to the latest release by the country's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on January 17.

The December coal output, up 3.7% on month, reached a record high since the NBS data was available in 1989, with daily average output also hitting a record high of 12.4 million tonnes, largely thanks to the Chinese government's measures to increase coal output and secure supply, according to
