August China copper scrap import was 154.6 kt, decreasing by 0.3% month on month and increasing by 19.2% year on year. Accumulative import was 1,190.9 kt, increasing by 8.4% year on year.

August scrap import slightly fell month on month but still on high level. August scrap import profitability turned positive, which stimulated import. Besides, domestic scrap dismantling volume decreased due to high temperature, thus downstream producers chose to purchase imported copper scrap for production. Mysteel expects September copper scrap import to increase month on month as import profitability keeps rising.
