The main structure of the first 270,000-cubic-meter LNG storage tank in South China's Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area was completed on February 7, according to news from CNOOC.
It is part of the phase II construction of CNOOC's Zhuhai Jinwan LNG Terminal, which is located at Gaolan Port in Jinwan District of Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province, and the largest LNG terminal on the west bank of the Pearl River Estuary.
The phase II project was commenced in June 2021, with five 270,000-cubic-meter tanks to be constructed. After it is completed and put into operation in 2024, the terminal will become the largest LNG storage and transport base in South China, with an annual processing capacity of 7 million tonnes, equivalent to about 10 billion cubic meters of gaseous natural gas, sufficient to supply nearly 30 million households for one year, sources close to CNOOC said.
Phase I of the terminal was in operation since 2013, with an annual processing capacity of 3.5 million tonnes of LNG.
At present, there are 11 terminals in South China with a total receiving capacity of 34.4 million t/y, of which Guangdong Province has a total of 17.9 million t/y, accounting for 52% in South China. After the second phase of Zhuhai Jinwan LNG Terminal is put into operation in 2024, total receiving capacity of Guangdong Province will reach 21.4 million t/y, accounting for 56% in South China, data from OilChem showed.
