According to Tianshan Aluminum's annual report, the company produced 1.158 million tonnes of aluminum ingot in 2022, slightly higher than 1.154 million tonnes in 2021, and its high-purity aluminum production surged 152.6% to 41.4 kt. The company aims to produce 1.15 million tonnes of primary aluminum and 60 kt of high-purity aluminum in 2023.
The company has 1.2 MTPA primary aluminum capacity in Shihezi city of Xinjiang, and 6*350MW captive power units, which can meet 80-90% of power demand. The installed capacity of high-purity aluminum is 60kt/a, and 40kt/a is under construction.
There was a sharp increase in alumina production due to capacity ramp-up in Guangxi, the location of its sole alumina project currently. The refinery named Tiangui Aluminum has a total installed capacity of 2.5 MTPA, and it has already been fully commissioned after the third production line was put into operation in Q3 2022. The Total alumina production in 2022 increased by 70% to 1.54 million tonnes. The company aims to produce 2.5 million tonnes of alumina in 2023.
After the company completed the acquisition of bauxite mines in Indonesia, it announced a plan on March 18 to invest $1.556 billion to build a 2 MTPA alumina refinery in that country. The project will be built by two phases with 1MTPA each. The company also showed intention to seek investment and M&A opportunities in other countires with rich bauxite resources.
In terms of other products, the company's anode production was up 8.8% to 512,500 tonnes in 2022, and battery aluminum foil production was 300 tonnes. Its 2023 production target is 550,000 tonnes of anode and 40,000 tonnes of battery aluminum foil.
