China saw a steady increase in its natural gas production this year, official data showed.
Natural gas production in the country amounted to 79.2 billion cubic meters in the first four months of this year, an increase of 6.17% from a year earlier, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
In April, China's natural gas production reached 18.9 billion cubic meters, up 7.0% year on year, with daily production of 630 million cubic meters, data from NBS showed. The production was 7.8% lower from 20.5 billion cubic meters in March, due to reduced demand for supply guarantee after the heating season.
China looks to boost domestic energy supplies, and supports upstream gas supply enterprises to increase efforts in oil and gas exploration to ensure energy security.
Sinopec produced 2.226 billion cubic meters of natural gas and sold 2.066 billion cubic meters in the first quarter of 2023, an increase of 7.1% and 7.2% respectively from a year ago, both reaching a historic high level.
PetroChina's oilfields completed their production tasks in the first quarter, ensuring a dual increase in oil and gas production.
