The vessel "PACIFIC RIZHAO" arrived at the Oriental Energy Terminal in Jida Harbor Area of Maoming Port, South China's Guangdong Province on June 9 to discharge 46,000 tonnes of propane, indicating that Oriental Energy (Maoming)'s alkane resources comprehensive utilization project was about to start its trial production.
The plant includes a 600,000 t/y PDH unit, a 400,000 t/y PP unit, a 200,000 t/y synthetic ammonia unit, and equipped with two 50,000-dwt liquid bulk terminals and six propane and butane tanks.
After the PDH project is put into operation, there will be four sets of PDH units in South China, along with Guangxi Huayi New Materials' 750,000 t/y PHD project at Qinzhou Port and Dongguan Grand Resource Science & Technology's 600,000 t/y each PDH Phase I and Phase II projects that were all stable in operations, bringing total production capacity to 2.55 million t/y from 600,000 t/y last year, data from OilChem showed.
With multiple sets of PDH and ethylene cracking units going into stream this year, it is believed that LPG demand will enjoy sustainable growth in South China where LPG is used for the growing petrochemical sector.
Oriental Energy is the biggest LPG importer and distributor in China, and it has four LPG importing terminals located in Jiangsu' Zhangjiagang, Zhejiang's Ningbo, Guangxi's Qinzhou and Guangdong's Maoming, respectively.
