In the wake of the rapid development of the PBAT industry in China, newly-added capacities constantly came on stream due to the rising domestic demand triggered by favorable national policies. Under such circumstances, the years 2022 and 2023 see blowout growth of newly-added PBAT capacities.

As for capacity distribution, PBAT capacities are mainly distributed in East China, South China and Northwest China, with a total capacity of 8.88 million tonnes/year, accounting for 68.26% of the national capacity. East China and South China are the main consumption markets, while Northwest China is close to the main raw material producing areas, which has advantages in cost.

Along with the industry expansion, PBAT output is also on an uptrend, and January-August PBAT output totaled 119,100 tonnes in 2023, up 43,900 tonnes or 58.38% year on year.

As newly-added capacities come on stream, China's PBAT industry expands quickly in 2023, and its current capacity reaches 1,301,000 t/y, which gains obviously by 488,000 t/y compared with 2022, whose PBAT capacity totaled 813,000 t/y.
With the total capacity of 1.67 million t/y, there are 15 proposed PBAT projects from 2023 to 2025, and PBAT capacities will continuously expand in China.
