On January 7th, Zijin Mining announced that its first lithium exploration project in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Manono lithium project, is expected to start production in the first quarter of 2026.
In January 2022, Zijin Mining announced that its joint venture with COMINIERE, a mining development company in the Democratic Republic of Congo, held a shareholders' meeting to officially launch Zijin Mining's first lithium exploration project. The Manono lithium mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo, controlled by Australian mining company AVZ, is currently one of the world's largest open-pit lithium rich LCT (lithium, cesium, tantalum) pegmatite deposits.
