Russian coal production dips slightly in 2024

Russia's coal production during 2024 totalled 427 million tonnes, lower by a tiny 0.6% compared with the previous year, the latest data from the Russian State Statistics Service (Rosstat) show. The dip, the second in succession, was blamed on global coal-market fluctuations last year as well as the impact of escalated US sanctions on Russia's coal industry.
