NBS: China Jan CPI rises 0.5%, PPI loses 2.3% YoY

China's Consumer Price Index (CPI) in January gained 0.5% from January 2024 and increased by 0.7% from December last year, while the country's PPI fell by 2.3% on year and dropped 0.2% on month, according to the data released by the country's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Sunday.
The CPI increased at a faster pace in January as people's consuming activity was boosted by the eight-day Chinese New Year holiday starting at the end of last month, especially in the tourism and entertainment sectors, according to Dong Lijuan, a senior statistician with NBS.     For example, Chinese prices for
