According to the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (GACC), China's prebaked anode export volume gained 121,800 tonnes, or 40.94% over year to 419,200 tonnes over January - February, 2025.

With its high-quality and low-priced prebaked anode products, China has been the world's largest exporter of prebaked anode. As China's prebaked anode producers actively sought export channels in recent years, the export volume of prebaked anode continued to grow. During the past two months, Canada, Malaysia and UAE became the main export destinations. The export volume of prebaked anode from Shandong, Jiangsu, Hunan, Hainan and Guangdong provinces totaled 390,000 tonnes, occupying 93% of the total exports.
On the contrary, the import volume of prebaked anode dipped by 1,622 tonnes or 99.59% over year to 6.64 tonnes in January and February, due to ample supply in domestic market.
France ranked the top prebaked anode supplier for China, followed by Japan and United States. Faced with sufficient supply, enterprises located in Shanghai and Jiangsu imported special grade of prebaked anode in the first two months of 2025.
Looking ahead, the prebaked anode import volume is projected to stay at a low point of about 10 tonnes, dragged down by poor profits for domestic producers and reduced downstream product prices. The export volume is estimated to inch up to 250,000 tonnes or so.
