The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) announced Indonesia holds the position as the world's largest nickel producer. The nation also occupies a strategic position in other mineral resources, including coal, copper, bauxite, and tin.
Deputy Minister of ESDM Yuliot Tanjung stated that the country's abundant mineral and coal resources are a key driver for downstream processing. The reason is that selling raw materials offers minimal economic value. Yuliot further revealed that among existing commodities, Indonesia possesses the world's fourth-largest bauxite reserves, ninth-largest copper reserves, fourth-largest gold reserves, largest tin reserves, and sixth-largest coal reserves.
In terms of production, Indonesia ranks first globally for nickel and tin, third for coal, sixth for bauxite and copper, and eighth for gold.
