Chalco's primary aluminum output rises 6.8% YoY in Jan-Sept

Aluminum Corporation of China Limited (Chalco), the world’s leading aluminum producer headquartered in Beijing, produced 6 million tonnes of primary aluminum during January-September this year, up 6.8% from the same period last year, according to the company’s third-quarter results released on October 28.

Of this total output, 5.99 million tonnes or 99.8% were sold externally, representing a 7% on-year increase.

During the July-September quarter, Chalco's primary aluminum production rose 2% on year to 2.03 million tonnes, Mysteel Global calculated based on the company's data.

Regarding raw materials, Chalco produced 13.04 million tonnes of metallurgical-grade alumina in the first three quarters, up 3.7% from a year earlier. External sales of alumina totaled 4.91 million tonnes, accounting for 37.7% of total output and marking a 2.9% on-year increase.

In the third quarter alone, the company's smelter-grade alumina output reached 4.44 million tonnes, up 1.6% from the previous year.

The growth in both production and sales of Chalco's core products -- primary aluminum and alumina -- contributed to higher revenue and profitability during the January-September period, the Q3 report noted.

Chalco's operating revenue increased 1.6% on year to Yuan 176.5 billion ($24.9 billion) over January-September, while the company's net profit attributable to shareholders surged 10.7% to Yuan 10.87 billion during the same period.
