On October 31, South Korean battery giant Samsung SDI officially announced the signing of a strategic tripartite agreement with German luxury automaker BMW Group and U.S. battery technology pioneer Solid Power to jointly conduct an all-solid-state battery verification project.
According to the agreement, Samsung SDI will utilize the solid electrolyte developed by Solid Power to supply all-solid-state battery cells that offer both higher energy density and enhanced safety. The BMW Group will be responsible for developing the corresponding battery modules and packs. The three parties aim to evaluate the battery performance based on jointly determined parameters and requirements, and integrate them into BMW's next-generation verification vehicles for testing.
This collaboration not only marks a critical step for all-solid-state batteries advancing from laboratory research to vehicle integration validation but may also reshape the competitive landscape of the future high-end electric vehicle market.
