On January 28, it was learned from reporters that CMOC Group Limited's cobalt products from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) have commenced export. The DRC is the world's largest cobalt producer, accounting for over 70% of global production.
In February 2025, the DRC's Regulatory Authority for Strategic Mineral Markets announced a four-month suspension of cobalt product exports to address the global cobalt supply glut. In June, it extended the export ban for an additional three months. In September, the DRC announced the end of the cobalt export ban and implemented a quota-based export system effective October 15th. According to the detailed cobalt export quotas disclosed by the DRC, CMOC Group Limited received an export quota of 6,650 tonnes of cobalt for the fourth quarter of 2025. Last month, a representative from CMOC Group Limited stated that the company is proceeding with various export arrangements in accordance with the procedures of the DRC government.
