On January 27, BYD recently signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Vietnam's Kim Long Motor. The two parties will jointly establish a commercial electric vehicle battery factory in central Vietnam. The facility will produce batteries tailored for commercial vehicles such as buses, trucks, and minibuses.
According to the agreement, the total investment for the project across two phases is $130 million (approximately Yuan 900 million). The first phase involves constructing a 4.4-hectare roofed factory building, establishing an annual production capacity of 3 GWh for power batteries.
In the second phase, an additional 6 hectares will be developed, bringing the total area to 10 hectares. A passenger vehicle battery production line will also be added, raising the total capacity to 6 GWh per year. The aim is to establish the factory as one of the leading EV battery manufacturing facilities in Vietnam and even across Asia. It also plans to export high-quality batteries and EVs produced by Kim Long Motor under the "Made in Vietnam" brand to other countries.
The battery factory will be invested in and constructed by Kim Long Motor, with BYD providing technical and process support. This collaboration will lay the foundation for Kim Long Motor to gradually master battery manufacturing technology.
