Mongolia sets lower 2026 coal output target after record 2025

Mongolia plans to produce 90 million tonnes of coal in 2026, lower than its 2025 realized output, after officials flagged structural risks in the mining sector that could threaten long-term development, according to a report by state news agency Montsame on January 27.

The 2026 target compares with 95.45 million tonnes of coal produced in 2025, which marked a modest 0.4% year-on-year increase to a new record high, data from the National Statistical Office of Mongolia showed. The production plan was released following a government meeting on the implementation of mineral sector policies
