CONF: India's iron ore demand poised for rapid growth

India's iron ore demand is set to witness robust growth in the coming decades, driven by a rapidly expanding steel industry in the country, Mohit Ratolikar, Vice President Commercial of India's leading steelmaker JSW Steel Group told delegates at the 20th International Iron Ore Seminar held by Mysteel in East China's Qingdao on Thursday.

India's current iron ore demand stands at approximately 274 million tonnes/year, and over the next 20 years, the demand is expected to reach 2.5 times the current level, Ratolikar predicts, which underscores the ambitious expansion goals of the country's steel sector.
