Indonesian Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia recently stated that the government is considering conditionally relaxing coal and nickel production targets for 2026, citing rising commodity prices driven by the conflict in the Middle East.
Speaking after a meeting chaired by President Prabowo Subianto, Bahlil said that as long as coal and nickel prices remain stable, the government will adjust production flexibly in line with market supply and demand mechanisms. He noted that any relaxation would depend on actual production conditions, but emphasized that the government would not alter its fundamental management policies for the two commodities and would continue to closely monitor global market developments.
Previously, Bahlil had announced plans to reduce national coal and nickel production targets under the 2026 Work Plan and Budget (RKAB) in response to weak global prices caused by oversupply. His latest remarks reflect the government's flexible approach in balancing price stability with supply security.
