Indonesia's Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa recently stated that the government expects to finalize the technical details for imposing export duties on coal and processed nickel products within the next one to two weeks. Teams from the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) are holding continuous meetings last week to finalize the technical arrangements.
Purbaya revealed that some details still require further coordination, but the overall work is nearing completion. He had previously received approval from President Prabowo Subianto to impose export duties on the two commodities.
Additionally, Purbaya noted that the export duties will provide the Directorate General of Customs with an effective tool to crack down on irregularities such as under-invoicing in exports of coal and processed nickel products.
