On April 20, PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN), on the occasion of its 55th anniversary, announced the establishment of a strategic partnership with CATL to jointly produce hybrid vehicle batteries in Indonesia. TMMIN will invest 1.3 trillion Indonesian Rupiah (approximately Yuan 5.17 billion) in this initiative.
Currently, TMMIN operates a battery pack production line at its Karawang plant, producing battery packs for the Toyota Kijang Innova Zenix HEV, Veloz HEV, and Yaris Cross HEV. However, the cells and modules are still imported. Through the partnership with CATL, Toyota will be able to further localize the battery manufacturing process, thereby strengthening control over its supply chain and enhancing its resilience against global supply chain fluctuations.
Nandi Julyanto, President Director of TMMIN, stated that this partnership is highly significant for TMMIN, as the company will become Toyota's first subsidiary in Southeast Asia to export batteries to the global market, with exports scheduled to officially commence in the second half of 2026.
