Recent news indicate that Toyota Motor Corporation will invest 12 billion Japanese yen (equivalent to more than Yuan 500 million) in a factory construction project with CATL. CATL's battery plant located in West Java, Indonesia, is scheduled to begin production by the end of 2026, with an annual capacity of 6.9 GWh. This plant serves as a crucial part of CATL's strategic expansion into the Southeast Asian market, providing supporting services both for Chinese brands going global and for local automakers.
Toyota's 12 billion yen investment is specifically a supplier cooperation project aimed at securing battery support for its local manufacturing companies in Indonesia. The investment will be primarily used to build a dedicated production line for Toyota within CATL's Indonesian plant. As a result, Toyota will procure batteries from CATL's Indonesia facility for its locally produced hybrid electric vehicles.
