China's NPI imports climb in May as Indonesia ore-supply pressures moderate

China's imports of nickel pig iron (NPI) totaled 909,849 tonnes in May, marking a rise of 7.1% from April and 8.2% from a year earlier, new data from the General Administration of Customs (GACC) showed.

Imports from Indonesia, China's dominant NPI supplier, reached 883,130 tonnes last month, representing an on-month increase of 8% and higher by 7.9% from the year-ago level. Indonesian imports accounted for the bulk of the overall increase, the data suggest. A Wuxi-based market source noted that the rise in May shipments
