On June 30, 2026, at a related meeting, Indonesia's ESDM did not announce an official increase in the total 2026 nickel ore RKAB quota. The base quota remains at 260 million wet metric tonnes, and the new supplementary quota will not be announced until ESDM completes the approval process for the supplementary quotas.
The meeting mentioned the following approval rules:
- Application window for supplementary quotas for mines: Applications for additional production increases can only be submitted from July 1 to July 31;
- Approval constraint: The additional quota must be tied to the applicant's own smelting capacity within Indonesia. Applications from pure mining companies are likely to be rejected, and mines that sell raw ore for export will not be granted capacity increases;
- Approval method: Each case will be reviewed individually, and the final total increase remains highly uncertain.
