CANSI: China's new vessel orders soar 173% YoY in H1

Chinese shipbuilders concluded new vessel orders totaling 121.06 million deadweight tons (DWT) in the first half of 2026, rocketing by 173.1% on year, according to the latest release from the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI) on July 23.

The spurt in order bookings secured by Chinese shipyards during this year's first half caused their backlog to surge as well, up by 54.9% on year to reach 363.25 million DWT by the end of June, the association's data showed. Meanwhile, Chinese shipbuilders completed vessels amounting to 36.5 million DWT over January-June, also spiking by 51.2% on year, according to CANSI data.
