Indonesia launches AD probe into Chinese galvanized steel

The products subject to the investigation fall under Harmonized System (HS) codes 7210.49.11, 7210.49.17, 7210.49.18, 7210.49.19, 7212.30.12, 7212.30.13, 7212.30.19, 7225.92.90 and 7225.99.90 under the 2022 Indonesian Customs Tariff Book.

The investigation stems from a petition from PT Tata Metal Lestari, a local coated steel producer, and PT ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel Indonesia, a joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel, on behalf of the domestic industry.

KADI Chairperson Frida Adiati said preliminary evidence showed a rise in imports of galvanized steel products from China that has caused injury to domestic producers.

Indonesia's total galvanized steel imports reached around 2.56 million tonnes between January 2023 and December 2025, of which 2.08 million tonnes, or about 81%, came from China, Frida said.

The investigation will run for a period of up to 12 months, which could be extended to 18 months if necessary, according to the announcement.

According to data from China's General Administration of Customs (GACC), China exported 419,507 tonnes of galvanized plate/sheet and strip to Indonesia last year, and the export volume stood at 310,515 tonnes in this year's January-July period.
