Production of crude steel in Japan during the present October-December quarter is expected to reach 20.67 million tonnes, according to the latest forecast from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) from hearings from steelmakers, higher by nearly 3% from projected output for the previous quarter.

If METI's forecast proves accurate, crude steel production for this calendar year would reach 81.16 million tonnes, higher by 850,000 tonnes from last year and making for the first time since 2021 that the total has exceeded the previous year's level on a calendar year.
