Most of China's refined copper smelters have resumed production as of February 2, according to Mysteel's survey of 27 copper smelters in China, with an annual capacity of 7.7 million tonnes. Almost no large smelters shut down during the Spring Festival. While the output of small and medium-sized smelters had decreased, mainly because some smelters shut down for maintenance and haven't resumed production yet.
China's copper smelters operating rates are expected to increase further after February 5. Mainly because downstream enterprises will replenish raw materials after such a long holiday. In addition, smelters have higher production profits with current high copper prices, and the import losses also make it difficult for supply to be supplemented by imported copper.
