According to Mysteel, China's total installed capacity of primary aluminum was 44.68 MPTA by the end of May, down 0.02% on month due to a slight decrease in Shandong, where smelting capacity is decreasing amid capacity relocation and transfer. The installed capacity was up 1.4% on year mainly due to the ramp-up in Inner Mongolia, Yunnan, Gansu and Guizhou.
The operating capacity was 40.6 MTPA as of late May, up 0.6% on month due to restarts in Guangxi and Guizhou. However, it was down 0.9% on year due to production cuts in Yunnan and capacity decrease in Shandong after the capacity relocation to Yunnan.

China's total primary aluminum production was 3.44 million tonnes in May, down 0.6% on year. Daily output was 111,100 tonnes, slight higher than 110,600 tonnes in April.
Mysteel predicts that China's aluminum operating capacity will keep rising in June driven by some new commissioning in Guizhou and the expectation of some restarts in Yunnan.
