WEEKLY: China wash plants' met coal stocks decline

The total inventories of processed coking coal held by the 110 Chinese independent and affiliated wash plants surveyed by Mysteel during the week of March 19-25 decreased by 149,500 tonnes or 6.5% on week to about 2.14 million tonnes, marking a new low since early February, Mysteel's latest data show. More coke producers had begun gradually increasing their coking coal purchases over the week, which helped to ease the inventory pressure at coking coal wash plants, according to sources.

As of March 25, the operating rate of the 110 sampled wash plants had inched down by 0.62 percentage point on week to 61.99%, while the total volume of coking coal being processed had declined too, falling by 7,800 tonnes/day on week to 522,400 t/d on average, according to
