China's domestic thermal coal prices extended their sharp decline on December 17 amid persistently weak demand, but several supportive factors emerged, which may help slow the pace of the downturn.

On Wednesday, Mysteel's assessment for the benchmark 5,500 kcal/kg NAR thermal coal lost another Yuan 9/tonne ($1.3/t) on day to reach Yuan 732/t, sending cumulative drops to Yuan 98/t during a nearly one-month downturn.
