DAILY: Sentiment fuels China's thermal coal price upticks

Buoyant market sentiment, fueled by falling port inventories and a brief pickup in coal burn at coastal utilities, continued to lift China's spot thermal coal prices at northern ports on January 6, sources noted.

Mysteel assessed the 5,500 kcal/kg NAR coal at Yuan 694/tonne ($99.3/t) FOB with VAT on January 6, up Yuan 3/t on day. Prices for lower-calorific value (CV) grades posted stronger gains, with 5,000 kcal/kg and 4,500 kcal/kg NAR coal each higher by Yuan 5/t to Yuan 603/t and Yuan
