Outlook on China's steel indirect exports (20252026)

Steel indirect exports mainly refer to exports of downstream products such as machinery, metal products, shipbuilding, steel structures, home appliances, containers, automobiles, motorcycles, bicycles, and railway rolling stock. According to Mysteel estimates, China's steel indirect exports reached approximately 134 million tonnes in 2024, up 18 million tonnes on--year. Based on Mysteel's calculations, steel indirect exports are expected to reach around 143 million tonnes in 2025, an increase of 9.5 million tonnes on-year, representing growth of approximately 7%.

Looking ahead to 2026, with an improving international trade environment and exports continuing to serve as a key pillar of China's economic growth, steel indirect exports are expected to maintain an upward trajectory. Total steel indirect exports are projected to reach around 150 million tonnes, an increase of 4%–5%
